PE Pekin switcher

The P&E Pekin switcher is an all day job.  The primary purpose is to work Pekin industries on the P&E, interchange with the ATSF, and pull cars off and add to passing wayfreights.

Typical day on the job:
  • Prepare Eastbound (PE staging) cars for #94.
  • Receive #94 at 7:45am, receive Pekin bound cars from #94, add Eastbound (to PE Staging) cars to #94.
  • Transfer run to/from ATSF.  Feel free to do these anytime traffic warrants it.  Coordinate these with the ATSF operator.
  • Switch south Pekin industries (Corn Products, American Distilling) or call a crew for a morning Corn Products or Americal Distilling job.  Keep in mind that the run-around track in south Pekin only holds 8 – 10 cars, so Corn Products and American Distilling are usually worked by separate trains.
  • Switch Pekin industries (Kriegsman Transfer, Pekin High School, Freight house, Team track, GMO interchange).
  • Transfer run to/from ATSF if needed.
  • Prepare PPU and CIM bound cars for #95.
  • Be prepared for #11 to come through westbound at 12:15pm.  It may need express cars removed or added.
  • Receive #95 at 1:15pm.  Remove Pekin bound cars (including to ATSF) from #95, and add Peoria bound (PPU and CIM) cars to #95.
  • Be prepared for #12 to come through eastbound at 2:15pm.  Add any PE staging bound express cars.  Watch for inbound express cars on the ATSF interchange track.
  • Switch south Pekin industries (Corn Products, American Distilling) or call a crew for an afternoon Corn Products or Americal Distilling job.
  • Switch Pekin industries (Kriegsman Transfer, Pekin High, Freight house, Team track, GMO interchange).
  • Transfer run to/from ATSF if needed.
  • Prepare Eastbound (PE staging) cars for #90.
  • Receive #90 at 4:35pm, receive Pekin bound cars from #90, add Eastbound (to PE staging) cars to #90.
  • Transfer run to/from ATSF if needed.
  • Switch south Pekin industries (Corn Products, American Distilling) or call a crew for a night Corn Products or Americal Distilling job.
